Winter's Tale

{4 February 2011}   Not Getting on Facebook Today…

1. My bio teacher rocks my socks off! Last week, I needed to talk to her so I go up to her after class and I see that she has the Elder Wand on her stack of books. Then today, she is lecturing about proteins. To make her point about all the different proteins that can be put together to make completely different polypeptides, she said the proteins were like Legos. What made it better was her saying the polypeptides were “the Harry Potter castle or an Atlantis… dome… thing.”

2. I was just in the dining hall eating and it was pretty empty because most people go home for the weekend. There were four guys a couple tables away and when one got up for more food, he left his phone behind. He came back and started freaking out because his phone was gone. One of his friends called it and the guy listened real hard for it. He heard it so it couldn’t be far away. Looked all over the table, his pockets, his bag. Finally realised it was coming from the napkin dispenser. He got mad at his friends but said “I give you an A for creativity.”

3. I got in the elevator in the dorm after dinner and there are two guys in there (wearing matching shirts!). One notices my Yoshi shirt and says “Nice shirt. I love Yoshi. Do you play it on N64 by chance?” I said yes and he said “Hells yea that shit’s for real!” And we talked more about how cute and awesome Yoshi is because he’s just there being a dinosaur all like “I’m a dinosaur and I’m going to do whatever the hell I want.” And all you girls wonder why I play video games…

4. Bethany, Ashley, and probably Megan went somewhere this weekend. THEY FUCKING LOCKED THE BATHROOM STALL!!! Our bathroom has two sinks, a small shower, and a bathroom stall like a public bathroom complete with lock and no lid on the toilet and that weird bar flusher. Well, the stall is closed and the lock is through the thing on the other side. No idea how they accomplished it. No idea how to fix it. No idea if it was an accident of if they wanted to mess with me. Either way – FUCKING PISSING ME OFF!!!!

Edit: Climbed on small bench in enclosed thing before shower, leaned over, and used a hanger. I got to use the toilet, thank you very much.

I am sure you have heard me (seen me) ramble on and on and on about the television show Heroes…

Heroes Season 2

Season 2 Promo Pic

Well, here I am to talk about it again:

The fourth season ended on 8 February 2010 with the episode A Brave New World.

It was the 79th episode of the series.

The series could possibly end without getting syndicated.

YOU can help the show get 100 episodes by creating a Heroes100 account on Twitter (or staying on your original account) and placing #Heroes100 at the end of each tweet you post. (Please no more than 3 times or it’s counted as spam and our hash tag will not trend.) We need to, in a sense, spam @NBC so they know the fanbase for Heroes is in need of these next 21 episodes not only to get re-runs on other channels but because this show is really spectacular! It teaches about good versus evil and how personal actions can affect the whole world (and I am sure I am not the only fan who wants to see Claire get PUNISHED for telling the WORLD about the specials. Grr. hahaha!!).

Heroes rocks!

Fan art of the show tweeted by @wendilynnmakeup

Since I’m not a great person to convince people of something, go to these sites and read more about the campaign: one and two.
And click here for some great fan art from amy-art on deviantART. She has Hiro Nakamura, Peter Petrelli, Claire Bennet and Niki/Jessica Sanders (plus some great Potter fan art if I may say so. [Ew, Twilight though!]).

The “Reading Level” is 9-12 according to Amazon.

I started reading the series at 17 years of age.

I am addicted.

From the first sentence of the synopsis on the back of book one The Lightning Thief, “Twelve-year-old Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school… again.” to the first chapter title, “I accidentally vaporize my pre-algebra teacher”, I was drawn into the hilarity and action of the book. I do not care that it was written for a younger audience; this series is a GREAT read.

I wrote a short fan letter that I am wanting to send the author… I think it sums up my feelings quite nicely:

“Mr. Rick Riordan,
I just want to congratulate you! The Greek gods and their myths and morals are really complicated to sort out and you did a wonderful job taking them on and creating new characters to mix with the old (Plus I actually understand some Greek mythology after reading your Percy Jackson series!).

Not only did you use historical events in a modern setting, you made it entertaining and hilarious. Your chapter titles amuse me greatly and they rarely give away the chapter content. And the sarcasm of Percy not to mention the satirical satyr Grover!

Let’s just say that I am deeply impressed and awestruck by your series. I am a seventeen-year-old high school senior in a school that allows us to take college courses and earn an associates degree within our four years of high school. I started reading Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief the last week of January 2010 and just last night I finished reading The Battle of the Labyrinth. I am completely addicted and I don’t care that my age is above the intended reading level (amazon.com says 9-12); this series is spectacular and if its not “the next Harry Potter” for the world, it will be for me (and I’m a really huge Harry Potter Freak!).

Congratulations on the series, the movie, and the possibility of another Camp Half-Blood tale! You deserve all kinds of awards and medals and of course a vast and varied fan-base. You are a spectacular writer, Mr. Riordan!”

So, I realise how fail and probably entirely unhelpful my ‘reviews’ are, but they are fun to write. Ranting about favourite things and awesome stuff is my specialty. I definitely recommend reading this series! I took my brother, his girlfriend, and one of my cousins to the movie and started talking about the series to the girlfriend on the way home afterword and she now really wants to read it even though I gave away some plot twists. :)

READ IT!!!!!
